Will God Let a Person Suffer?

God is holy - perfect in everything that pertains to Him. Thus, He will not allow His kingdom to be tainted with sin or sinners. However, each person has sinned against the infinite God. Sin against the perfect God deserves to be punished with a corresponding sentence. The just sentence is eternal separation from God and absence of all the blessings that come from Him.

All things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, and worthy of praise are from God. To reject God is to reject the blessings that come from Him. Therefore, a person who rejects God and His generous provision for salvation separates oneself in eternity from everything that is good. All that is left for that person is pain - spiritual, emotional, and physical.

Eternal suffering is not a pleasing thought. Nevertheless, it will be the destination of all who do not run to Jesus for refuge from the just wrath of God against sin.

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness"   Romans 1:18

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him."   Romans 5:8-9

"... Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come."   1 Thessalonians 1:10

It is possible that you may at this time be receiving many blessings from God, even though you have not turned from your sin and accepted God's provision for salvation. If so, allow the blessings to help you realize God's generosity and power and your desperate need for God. Also, allow them to teach you that God's gifts, including His greatest gift (Jesus as the payment for sins), have a purpose. They are designed to show God is able and willing to provide what you need. Awareness of His kindness and His wrath should cause you to repent of your sin. It should cause you to turn to Him for mercy of what you deserve for disobeying Him.

"Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will render to every man according to his deeds: to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation."   Romans 2:4-8

Turn from your sins and believe in Jesus.
