A Theological Basis for Evangelism |
|

|
I. New life is produced by God (Jms 1:18).
II. The Holy Spirit is the agent for conversion.
III. The power of new life is God's Word - the Gospel (Jms 1:18, 21).
IV. Only repentance and faith are necessary for salvation (Lu 24:47).
V. The task of the evangelist is to proclaim and explain (Rom 10:14-15; Acts 8:35; Lu 24:47, 32; 2 Tim 4:2-5; 1 Tim 4:13).
Scripture References"In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we might be, as it were, the first fruits among His creatures. . . . 21 Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls." James 1:18 "Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls." James 1:21 "So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek" Romans 1:15 "for "Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved." How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, " How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings of good things!" . . . So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:13-15, 17 "But what does it say? " The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart"-- that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved;" Romans 10:8-9 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." Hebrews 11:6 "This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?" Galatians 3:2-3 "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 "And beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. ... And they said to one another, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?" " Luke 24:27, 32 "Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry" 2 Timothy 4:2-5 "Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching." 1 Timothy 4:13 "And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. And as they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?" [And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."]" Acts 8:35-37 "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15
