A Description of Perpetual Pain

God is always perfectly just. He will require justice for your life. Thus, the penalty for your sin must be paid and will be paid. Sin is against the holy infinite God so its penalty is great and certain. God says the penalty for your sin is death - physical and spiritual. Physical death is separation of the spirit from the body. Spiritual death is separation from God forever - it is eternal separation from the Lord Jesus Christ. Sin is against the eternal God so its penalty is eternal. This death also involves perpetual punishment.

How will you escape eternal punishment, which is the just payment for your sin? Unless the debt for your sins is paid and your sins are forgiven, you will be given the eternal sentence: "... 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels"   Matthew 25:41

How will you avoid hearing this unrevocable decree from God?

"... For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He."   Deuteronomy 32:4

"Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins."   Ecclesiastes 7:20

"It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God."   Hebrews 10:31

God gives some graphic descriptions to symbolize the intensity of what that punishment will be. At judgment time, God will fulfill His wrath against sinners. He will send the angels to separate the wicked from the just. The wicked will be thrown into a furnace of fire - also described as a fire that is never quenched and as a lake of fire. The suffering there is described as disgrace, everlasting contempt, everlasting destruction and punishment, and continual torment without relief. Those who receive this just penalty will weep, wail, and gnash their teeth because of the agony and pain.

"But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God"   Romans 2:5

"And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt."   Daniel 12:2

"So it will be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth, and take out the wicked from among the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."   Matthew 13:49-50

"And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."   Matthew 25:46

"... when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. And these will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power"   2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

"Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice, and shall come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment."   John 5:28-29

"And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; and they have no rest day and night ..."   Revelation 14:11

"And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."   Revelation 20:15

"But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."   Revelation 21:8
